Watermelon Day

Two weeks down...wowza, I'm tired!
I just finished a post on my blog about Watermelon Day.  It was so much fun...and like all my monthly activities,  it involves my kids' parents!  They helped out by bringing the watermelon, measuring the distances during the seed spitting contest, and is fun to all get together and
learn at the same time =)
Click on the picture to read more about it and my Watermelon Activity Pack!
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Spotlight on the author Mo Willems

I LOVE Mo Willems, and it is a great way to start the year with funny, short, fun books that the kids can read. My kids love these for their book bags after I read them each day for the first month of school. Read aloud is essential to reading comprehension and interest, so I make sure I do this each and every day! The project below goes with the book "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog". It is great for not only first grade, but second as well.

The first picture gives step by step instructions and pictures for making pigeon and duck puppets! Just click and enjoy!

The next link is a follow up sheet I used for the first graders to write their own dialogue for the pigeon and the duck. They chose what they wanted the pigeon to find in their story, drew a picture, and then wrote their story! At the end of the lesson, they shared their stories they wrote like a play! Effective for creating dialogue and stories, and SO much FUN!

Hey Peeps!

Hi First Grade Teachers!  I am so excited to be a part of this blog!!!! :)  I have been walking around telling everyone that I am now an AUTHOR which is what I've always dreamed of being (well, that, and a teacher, of course!).  I am so glad that my begging pleading constant emailing polite interest in this blog was accepted!  :)

Our district uses the Houghton Mifflin curriculum and the first three weeks of Grammar have ZERO practice pages.  So I whipped them up myself.  Although they correlate with the Houghton Mifflin series, I am thinking that others may be able to use them as well.

Come over to my blog to snatch them up!

Big Changes Thanks to YOU!

Hold on to your stickers GANG!  Me and My Gang is going through more fun changes.  We have been so thrilled with the amount of emails coming in with suggestions about how to better imporve Me and My Gang.  We have decided to make some upgrades to the site.  First, we are working on a Home Page that will be a great opening act to all of your amazing blogs.  Each grade will have their own page with their own followers.  Blog Master Mckenna is working on individual grade level buttons.  Keep your suggestions coming we want this site to be more than one you visit...we want it to feel like home!

Do keep in mind that it is just The Teamies and Blog Master Mckenna making all of the changes and upgrades.  We are working as quickly as possible and we appreciate all of your patience while we build this fantastic resource!

Back to School Under the Sea Freebies!

This year we started our year with a fun "Under the Sea" unit to hook our kids for the first couple of weeks. Below are links for a bulletin board idea, a getting to know you game, a phonics game, and a math game that I used the first couple of weeks. The kids loved playing the games, and it was a great kindergarten review! Just click on each picture for the free game download!!!

To create this cute bulletin board, I put this "Officially Firsties" poster in the middle, and then printed the children's names on labels. I put the labels on the fish patterns you will find in this picture link, and then each child had a fish with their name on it on the bulletin board! Great welcome back!

This get to know you game is great for the first week for the kids to get to know about what everyone in the class likes.

This game is a great phonics review! The kids work in pairs to fish for letters that have the same sounds! The directions are in the link.

This game is a great math review! You can play as a whole group lesson first, and then have the students work in pairs to put the numbers in order from 1-30. Great follow up activity included too! Thanks for reading, and check out my blog for more freebies!
