It's me....Mel D
I just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself & my blog. I am Mel D the author of http://www.seusstastic.blogspot.com
I started blog stalking around this time last year & started my own blog in May & absolutely fell in love with blogging! I got to be a little too obsessed with it for a while but have had to slow down since school has started. Speaking of obsessions, please tell me you "pin"....I have over 3,000 pins...EEK! Well, I at least I can feed this addiction during my lunch hour on my iphone...gotta get the Pinterest app people!

Watermelon Day
Two weeks down...wowza, I'm tired!
I just finished a post on my blog about Watermelon Day. It was so much fun...and like all my monthly activities, it involves my kids' parents! They helped out by bringing the watermelon, measuring the distances during the seed spitting contest, and more...it is fun to all get together and
learn at the same time =)
Click on the picture to read more about it and my Watermelon Activity Pack!
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Spotlight on the author Mo Willems
I LOVE Mo Willems, and it is a great way to start the year with funny, short, fun books that the kids can read. My kids love these for their book bags after I read them each day for the first month of school. Read aloud is essential to reading comprehension and interest, so I make sure I do this each and every day! The project below goes with the book "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog". It is great for not only first grade, but second as well.
The first picture gives step by step instructions and pictures for making pigeon and duck puppets! Just click and enjoy!
The next link is a follow up sheet I used for the first graders to write their own dialogue for the pigeon and the duck. They chose what they wanted the pigeon to find in their story, drew a picture, and then wrote their story! At the end of the lesson, they shared their stories they wrote like a play! Effective for creating dialogue and stories, and SO much FUN!
Check out even more free resources at my blog!

Hey Peeps!
Hi First Grade Teachers! I am so excited to be a part of this blog!!!! :) I have been walking around telling everyone that I am now an AUTHOR which is what I've always dreamed of being (well, that, and a teacher, of course!). I am so glad that my begging pleading constant emailing polite interest in this blog was accepted! :)
Our district uses the Houghton Mifflin curriculum and the first three weeks of Grammar have ZERO practice pages. So I whipped them up myself. Although they correlate with the Houghton Mifflin series, I am thinking that others may be able to use them as well.
Come over to my blog to snatch them up!
