Friday Morning Work

Fridays we have these awful assemblies that get the kids all riled up excited for learning and because my kids are all riled up so excited for learning they need something to concentrate on when they get to class. We do crosswords on Fridays and my kids just love it when I'm the one who makes them. (Has my love of fonts rubbed off on them?!) This week we've been learning about Martin Luther King Jr. so that was this weeks crossword theme. Click the picture to grab your copy!

Label It Nursery Rhymes! (and a freebie!)

I know a lot of us in Early Childhood teach and use Nursery Rhymes for a variety of things related to reading.  These mats are perfect for your literacy stations to reinforce re-tell and writing/labeling skills.   I found super cute clip art and designed a labeling pack for Nursery Rhymes and since I got carried away with the new clip art from Springhill Graphics, I included 4 bonus fairytale mats and 3 Nursery Rhymes Thinking Maps!

Find it:

Nursery Rhymes included are:
Hey Diddle, Diddle
Little Miss Muffet
Humpty Dumpty
Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Jack and the Beanstalk
Jack Be Nimble
Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater
Sing a Song of Sixpence
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
BONUS:
Snow White and Seven Dwarfs
Little Red Riding Hood
Three Little Pigs
AND 3 Nursery Rhyme Thinking Maps!!!
In case you missed it, I have labeling packs that also include:
Space, School, Winter, and my newest one for The Mitten!!

If you have purchased my Let's Make a Penguin ..Or Three Pack then there WAS a small mistake on the labeling page- the title was misspelled...BUT instead of you having to download the entire pack again, here is that page (corrected) on google docs- as well as now the page is a freebie there for anyone who doesn't have the pack already!
So just click here or the picture below:
Sorry for any inconvenience and I promise to do a better job next time catching typos!!

Your "Go-To" Teaching Book Linky Party

Teaching in Room 6 is having a linking party on the one teaching resource book you can't live without. I have a library of teaching resource books, like most teachers do. But, the latest book I read for professional development was one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Class Acts: Every Teacher's Guide to Activate Learning (K-8)

This book focusses on improving student learning though effective management skills and active learning. Most veteran teachers will tell you, the best teachers have the best management of their students. The students are engaged and on-task, and there is little down time, even during transitions the students are engaged in learning. I wish this book had been out when I was a beginning teacher! It is one I recommend for all teachers, both veteran and me, because it reminds all of us of the smallest details that go into great management and teaching. This book helped me, and I've been teaching for 15 years.

Come join the fun at Teaching in Room 6 and add your link!

Teaching First

I added a new blog list to my side bar entitled "New Blogs on the Block- Show Them The Love!" It was just four short months ago when I was the new blog on the block, checking my followers to see if anyone had joined! We all remember that exciting feeling of reaching 20 followers, 30, 50!! Then 100 followers!! I've been wanting to have a more permanent spot on my blog where people would be able to see a list of newer blogs that they could check out. So this is what I came up with!

Now, I need a little help from all of you! If there is a new blog on the block that you'd like added to my list, just leave me the link in a comment below and I'll get it up there. Use your own discretion in figuring out what constitutes "new"!  =)

Thanks for your help!!

Let's Make a Valentine Friend!

Let's Make a Valentine Friend is a new craft/activity pack...I took the many
suggestions I have received and worked really hard to offer something that has a lot of variation available.  Like the elves and pilgrims, you can have kids create friends with different hair colors and styles...but in this pack, I have created a template for a LARGE friend and a SMALL friend...depending upon the amount of display space you have. I also included 4 different writing prompts (in a variety of cute fonts and then also some more practical/readable ones.)
The pack also includes a Valentine Class Graph!

Hope you love it =)
Here are some more pictures:

These crafts are perfect for a writing extension of your Valentine themed book study!

I will choose three comments from MY BLOG
(between now and tonight at 9pm central- January 3, 2012) by random generator and they will get this pack free! =) Don't forget to Leave your email if you make a comment on my blog by clicking the link to FirstGradeBlueSKies below!
